The Battle Near Hemmingstedt
It looks a hell of a lot like a medieval torture device, but it’s actually the gate to a monument commemorating “The Battle Near Hemmingstedt” around 1500. 5,000 German peasants defeated 10,000 crack troops of the Danish Black Guard by tricking them onto a narrow strip of land in a flooded area, then poking them to death with long pointy sticks. People in the area are still proud.
